Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp Trek

Gokyo lake + Cho La Pass + Everest Base camp Trekking takes you to the foot of Mt. Everest traversing across the high Cho La pass at an altitude of 5420m/17344ft. This is a classic and an unbelievable trekking, visiting all of the high valleys of the Khumbu with extra time at Gokyo to explore the upper valley. While we are trekking in Gokyo valley, we will have time to climb Gokyo Ri Peak 5360m. From there we can observe the world famous four peaks above 8000m of Cho Oyu (8201m.), Makalu (8463m.), Lhotse (8,516m.) and Everest (8848m.) exposed above Gokyo. Our camp at Gorakshep provides the opportunity to ascend to Kala Patthar 5545m for more spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, including the black rocky ramparts of Everest's southwest face.

The trek will lead to Gokyo Lake and over the Cho La pass at 5430m making a circuit of Tawache (6367m.) and Cholatse (6440m). Emerging into the Khumbu valley above Lobuche the trail continues up to Kala Patthar and then back to Lukla via Tengboche and Namche Bazaar. To top off this unique trek we climb Gokyo Ri (5488m/18000ft) for a panoramic view of the greatest mountain scenery in the world - including five 8000m/26000+ft giants and innumerable other peaks of the Khumbu Himal.

  1. Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu

    Upon arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you are welcomed by hospitable meeting and then you will be transferred to hotel. Our guide will explain briefly the program upon arrival at hotel. B&B.
  2. Day 02: Sightseeing of world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley including: Kathmandu Darbar square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath stupa & Pashupatinath Temple.

    To get a feel for the city of Kathmandu and a first impression for its amazing architectural monuments we will begin our day with spending some time on the Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you have the chance to see the living Goddess at the window of her residence, the Kumari Temple. Then visit Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, which is one of the world’s oldest Buddhist stupa (more than 2500 years old). After visit the Swayambhu your will drive to Buddhist Stupa at a place known as Boudha, about 7 km east of Kathmandu. The largest spherical Stupa was built during the 5th century A.D. Then we visit the Pashupatinath is the most famous Hindu temple and is situated on the banks of the river Bagmati. It is the place of crimination of Hindu. Then we back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.   3. Day 03: Kathmandu (1310m) - Lukla (2827m) - Phakding (2652m) 3 hours.

    Your breakfast served at hotel early in the morning and 15 minutes drive to Kathmandu airport for your domestic flight to Lukla. It's takes approximately 30 minutes flight to Lukla, during the flying to Lukla you may seen many of the world’s highest mountains, including Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu in clear day. So don’t forget to take a sit on left side into the aircraft. The airfield is on an evaluation of 2800m! When we get Lukla then have cup of coffee at Khumbu resort, (Remember this building we have to stay overnight for fly out to Kathmandu after finished our trip) After the nice  hot drink our adventure starts along the Dudh Kosi River to the village of Phakding 2800m with green landscape & view of Kusum kangraru.   4. Day 04: Phakding (2652m) - Namche Bazar (3440m) 6 hours

    Normally your breakfast will serve about 7.30 am but if you wish to have around 8.00 or 8.30 just let know your guide, After you finished your hot breakfast your guide will lead the trail  continues north up the Dudh Kosi valley with brilliant views of Thamserku,& Kusum kangraru to the Munzo, just beyond the Munzo you will see huge building of Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Gate, where trekking permits are checked and National Park fees collected, can get more information about the Everest region & National park Oh don’t forget to observe the records of monthly visitor into the Khumbu region. Then trek down & cross the Jorsale Bridge, This is the last place to Namche Bazar so we recommended you to have lunch or some snacks! Make sure you have enough water for 3 more hours. The trail continue along the Dudh Kosi River after two more brides begins the steep climb up to Namche Bazaar 3441m, the administrative center of the Sagarmatha National Park and the hub of Sherpa society. Remember to look out for glimpses of Mt. Everest from the trail to Namche Bazar! Overnight at guest house B.L.D
  5. Day 05: Acclimatization day in Namche bazaar – Hike to Everest view hotel (3900m) 3-4 hours.

    This is a day for acclimatization. We will take you the shyangbuche airport 3700m. it is suppose to height airport in the world. Then continue slightly climbing to Everest view hotel where you can observe including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache & many more. After the brilliant view of those mountains, we trek down to Namche & we will take a Sherpa museum. There you can see the traditional custom of Sherpa peoples & Mt. Everest photo Gallery!!   6. Day 06: Namche (3440m) To Dole (4200m) 5 hrs.

    After breakfast we start our journey to Dole, the trails easy in the begging up to Kyangjuma & climb steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forests, which give way to fragrant stands of juniper and large conifers as the elevation increases. This trek is especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. The trails pass many Kharkas, summer settlements used when Sherpas bring herds of yaks to graze in these high pastures. The route passes through the settlement s of Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) to Dole where there're few hotels. The views of Khumbila and Tawache (6542m) are incredible throughout the day!!   7. Day 07: Dole (4200m) To Machhermo (4400m) 5 hrs.

    From Dole the trail climbs to Lambara at (4220m) and Luza at (4360m). The tails is steep in most places as it climbs through brush junipers. There're Kharkas whenever there is a flat spot and the slightest hint of water. People from Khumjung own all the Kharkas on this side of valley. The trails continue to climb along the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machhermo at (4410m). It was in Machhermo in 1974 that Yeti killed three yaks and attached a Sherpa woman. This is the most credit yeti incident ever reported, so be watchful as you visit this reason.
  8. Day 08: Machhermo (4400m) to Gokyo Lake (4700m) 4 hrs.

    The trail climbs a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and up towards Cho-Oyu (8201m). Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through Pangka at (4390m) then descends to the riverbank before beginning of climb on to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. It's a steep climb up the moraine, switch backing alongside the stream to the first small Lake at (4650m), where a family of green Brainy ducks resides. The trail now becomes almost level at (4690m) and finally gets Gokyo at the elevation of 4700m. Overnight at guest house. B.L.D
  9. Day 09: Gokyo (4700m) to Gokyo RI (5360m) 4 hrs.

    This day early in the morning we have steep climb up to the top of Gokyo Ri, ample rewards to one attempts this trip. There are stunning views of the supper Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, such as giants as Everest, Lhotse, Nupste, Makalu (8481m), Cho-Oyu (8153m) and Gyachung Kang (7922m) can be seen. Those who explore the glacier and Gokyo peak are rewarded. This day we have for acclimatization and after noon back to the camp. Overnight at Guest House. B.L.D.
  10. Day 10: Gokyo Lake (4700m) To Dragnak (4760m) 3 hrs.

    This is a short trek to foot of the Cho-La pass, the trail leads you toward second lake & cross over Ngozumpa glacier. Overnight at guest house. B.L.D
  11. Day 11: Dragnak (4760m) To Chola pass (5360m) & Dzongla (4830m) 7 hrs.

    This is the big day of your trip!! Before crossing the Chola pass about three hundred meters is very hard!! You cannot imagine where to go especially if you are trekking of yourself. About 5 o’clock will be ready your breakfast then the trail leads gradually uphill until 5000m. This is a great view point of Chola pass & several peaks, then trail will descending to the Chola pass base camp 4800m. From here you will find very hard due to rocks, be careful with rocks…. Keep the trail continue after couple of hours from here you will be on the top of Chola pass. Then trek decent all the way to Dzongla. Overnight at guest house. B.L.D.
  12. Day 12: Dzongla (4830m) To Lobuche (4910m) 3 hrs.

    It is an easy day walking to Lobule; trek continues along the moraine of the glacier, with views of Kalapatthar and Pumori, before reaching Lobuche. Overnight at guest house. B.L.D.
  13. Day 13: Lobuche (4910m) To Gorakshep (5180m) 3 hours.

    After a short climb through meadows, look down on the Khumbu Glacier. Straight-ahead is Kalapatthar - the best vantage point to view the entire south face of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks. Trek to Gorakshep and prepare for tomorrow's Everest Base Camp Expedition 5400 meters. Overnight at guest hose. B.L.D.
  14. Day 14: Gorakshep (5180m) To Everest base camp (5400m) & back To Gorakshep (5180m) 7 hours.

    About 9 o’clock starts your Everest Base camp expedition though on the rocky trail. It is not much elevation different but there is lots of up & down it makes your body very tiring but do not harass, this is your dream since you were very young. Approximately after 3 hrs of hiking you will have been Everest Base Camp 5400m. Enjoy the view of Khumbu glacier & Khumbu icefall where the Everest Expedition starts. And trek back to Gorakshep.   15. Day 15: Gorakshep (5180m) Hike to Kalapatthar (5545m.) Back to Gorakshep & Trek down to Pheriche (4210m) 7 hours.

    About 5 o’clock in the morning, the day starts with a hike up to Kalapatthar (5545 mtrs.), an excellent viewpoint to observe the Mount. Everest and innumerable spectacular mountains views. Then trek back to Gorakshep for hot breakfast & trek descend to Pheriche (4210m). Overnight at Guest House. B.L.D.
  16. Day 16: Pheriche (4210m) to Khumjung (3900m) 6 hours.

    Easy walk along the Imja Khola, then a short climb up to the Tengbuche Monastery. The trail descends steeply towards Pungki Thanka and another steeply climbs to Khumjung. The Khumjung (the huge Sherpa settlement) is the famous for observation of the Yeti scalp, Hillary foundation school & Khunde hospital. Overnight at guest house. B.L.D
  17. Day 17: Khumjung (3900m) To Jorsale (2740m) 6 hours.

    The trail accent slightly to the Shyangbuche airport & trek descends to Namche Bazar 3440m. After the relaxing of tea, coffee or lunch the trail descents continue deeply to the Jorsale. Overnight at Guest house. B.L.D.
  18. Day 18: Jorsale (2740m) To Lukla (2800m) 5 hours.

    The trek continues along the Dudh Kosi River to the small mountain airstrip at Lukla to catch your return flight to Kathmandu. Overnight at Khumbu resort. B.L.D
  19. Day 19: Lukla (2800m) To Kathmandu (1310m) 30 minute.

    Scenic fly back to Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel. B&B
  20. Day 20: Free day in Kathmandu (it's also spare day in case of bad weather in Lukla) overnight at hotel. B&B
  21. Day 21: Final Departure from Nepal to your onward destination. “Farewell”
